Merry Christmas...way overdue!

Christmas was different this year. Being in California with my two boys for the month, without Bryce, was hard. Definitely fun at times, it's just always different when you're not in your house with your little ones for an extended period of time. My parents were a great help when they could be, but by the time Christmas rolled around, I was so exhausted and for that, among other reasons, Christmas felt a little weird.

I didn't quite realize how different this Christmas was until I looked back on the pictures I had taken. Different pictures. I didn't have a picture of my family of four on Christmas. No pics of my boys with Grammy and Gramps, no goofy pics with my sibs. So strange. That's all I can say about it. Times are changing. Life is changing. I guess that can be hard...but good, too.

Here's the collection of pics I did take...

One day, we were baking and getting things ready for Christmas and while I was in the kitchen, I peeked into the living room where my mom was wrapping presents. She had on this Santa hat and was just wrapping presents quietly by herself. It made me laugh out loud.

My dad and Bryce resurrected Beatles Rock Band from the last Christmas we were there. Trevin wanted to join in the fun by playing the drums.

Lunch at a pizza parlor near Julian on Christmas Eve

We did get a pic of our family of four on Christmas Eve. It was a beautiful day to be walking the streets of Julian and looking in the small shops.

Our crew, trekking down to the Julian Pie Company, known for their amazing apple pies (with cinnamon ice cream - delish!)

Bryce's little buddy, Cameron, helped push Tyson in the stroller.

Tyson looks excited, though he really showed NO INTEREST AT ALL in opening any of his presents. In fact, he cried when we'd hold him still to tear open the paper. Silly boy!

Case in point

Okay, here's a goofy one. Our retake of the "dad and his four kids" pic taken in 1989. I think we look a bit better now...

The Pinning fam...minus the husband, boyfriend, girlfriend, and grandsons

Trevin's favorite present of the evening was from Grandma Dee and Pappy...the Tonka Garbage Truck. How did they know that my son is in love with garbage trucks?

Tyson was asleep for the festivities on Christmas Eve night, so Christmas morning came and it was time for him to open his gifts. First, a toy cell phone from Santa.

Trevin's gotten quite good at having conversations on his cell phone. "Uh-huh...oh really? Ohmigosh! Yes. Yes. I would love to come out to play...okay, bye!"

Tyson sat still for this one...

My dad got the Kinect for the XBox from my brother and his girlfriend. It is fun! Here, Bryce and I my dad are river rafting through an obstacle course.

The vest. Bryce sported it on Christmas Day. Sicne the boys were sick on Christmas Eve, we stayed home from church, so he couldn't wear it then. Oh, bummer.

My elf brother, Michael and his reindeer dog, Dexter.

Trevin tries the Kinect with Bryce.

Thanks for sharing the pics Audrey. I guess we did have some fun, huh? But I still want a do over of Christmas...too bad that's not allowed. We'll hopefully know what to do better next time..but there's no denying that life and family dynamics change as time goes on.
