I did it. I decided to stop eating sugar...at least for the time being. I realize that this may come as a shock to many of you, since I LOVE baking and am always making (and eating) desserts of some kind. Well, my sweet tooth has gotten a little out of hand and I need to do something about it...and moderation is not the answer for me.
I was inspired after reading this blog by someone who gave up sugar for her New Year's resolution last year, and because of the amazing change she's seen in her overall well-being, she's doing it again this year. While I'm not ready to dive in full force like she did, just yet, I am going to at least focus on staying away from obvious sources of refined sugar. That mainly means no more sugary desserts or sweet snacks. And since I have a MAJOR sweet tooth, I'm going to need to start experimenting with natural sweeteners in my recipes. This will be interesting...I'm going to take it one week at a time!
You may be wondering...how is this going to look?
I do love to bake, and if you know me or have been reading my blog in the last couple of months, you've seen that. I especially like baking desserts, decorating cakes, and eating my creations! So, here's my plan - I'm still going to make "real" desserts for people if we have them over or have signed up to bring dessert somewhere, etc. For myself (and anyone who wants to try it) I'll make a healthier, naturally sweetened option. This is where the experimenting comes in and there are plenty of recipes to be found online.
When it comes to cake making and decorating, I'm still going to do that. It's a new hobby I've taken up that I really enjoy and think I can still enjoy without indulging. (It will also be an excellent test of willpower!) One exception I will make, though, is when I try a new cake recipe. Since making cakes and decorating them is something I want to get better at, I feel like I should probably sample my new creations to determine if they're any good. But...I'll be limiting the samples to just one or two bites.
So, there you have it. I've posted it and it's official! Now you all know what I'm trying to do and can help me stay accountable to this new commitment. :)

You go girl!
Seems there are a lot of us getting on the band wagon in different ways. You're going all out!
Did you see Michelle's cookie recipe on momswhocook.blogspot.com?
I'm going to try them now.
as a fellow sugar-lover, i am very impressed by your commitment. and it may seem daunting, but you can totally do it! i try using agave nectar as a sugar substitute with my daily tea or coffee, but apart from that i don't do much to monitor my sugar intake. maybe i will now, though...i'm glad you're continuing with the cake decorating. you're so good at it!
I've actually been thinking about this lately. I've been in a horrible whirlwind of EATING! All I do lately is eat and I think it's a sugar issue. The more I have...the more I want! It's gotta stop!!!
Good for you!
Can't wait to hear about your new discoveries trying out natural sugar options.
good for you audrenator. hope it goes splendidly. you're so fortunate that spring and summer are coming. fruit will be your best friend! a few strawberries over sugar free ice cream...you'll be set.
i too need to cut down on the sweets. my sweet tooth woke up after having cooper. it's crazy. i was doing so well with losing my cooper weight, but with this sweet tooth, it's like i'm sabotaging myself. i'm working on the whole willpower thing...it's quite the test!
i love your posts with links to other interesting sites. i strive to be a better blogger, but i just haven't made the time.
lots of love to you three!
